Here the fervent patriot from Liége, Walthère Dewé, hero of both wars, 1914 - 1918, 1940 - 1945, having refused to surrender, fell under German bullets, 14 January 1944.

Dewé and his colleague Hector Demarque were apprehended by the German police at number 41 ave de la Couronne. Dewé was escaping when he was stopped by a Luftwaffe officer in rue le la Brasserie. Demarque survived to 1975.
