Born Brussels. Songwriter/singer of French chanson. Died of lung cancer in Bobigny, in the suburbs of Paris. Is buried on the Island of Hiva Oa in the Marquesas, French Polynesia. The Fondation Jacques Brel (run by his eldest daughter, we are told) in Brussels at Vieille Halle aux Blés, 11, is well worth a visit, admirably evoking the times in which he lived.
