A "ketje de Bruxelles", he was not actually born in this house but at no. 241, next door on the left. When friends of Toots went to the opticians then occupying that building, and asked permission to install a plaque to the most famous Belgian jazz musician, the optician agreed but wanted rent for the privilege. Thus we have a rather enigmatic plaque on the "wrong" house.
