Antoine Depage

Surgeon. In 1907 Depage and Edith Cavell founded a clinic and the first Belgian nursing school. In 1912 he worked at the front in the Balkans and put this experience to good use in organising the surgical services for the Belgian army in WW1. Supported by King Albert 1st and the Queen, Depage, his wife Marie, née Picard and his colleague Paul Derache set up the sea ambulance service. He was consulted as the authority in such matters by many of the Allies military doctors.
