Statue: Don Quixote and Sancho Panza
Date:1990s. The address may not be very exact but the statue is large and raised high on a platform so that it can easily be seen from boulevard de l’Imperatrice. Don Quixote is a huge 17th C. Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes about an elderly bachelor who sets off across Spain on a crazy mission to revive the age of chivalry, accompanied by his faithful sidekick Sancho Panza. They did not, however, get as far as Brussels. Perhaps the statue is here in recognition of the first publishing of the novel outside the Iberian peninsular, in Brussels in 1607.
